Jurgen's too tired to go on

MARCELLO LIPPI and Jurgen Klinsmann quit their jobs managing Italy and Germany yesterday despite their successful World Cup campaigns.

Klinsmann admitted managing hosts Germany at the World Cup had left him "burnt out" while Lippi felt the time was right to step down having led Italy to World Cup glory.

Klinsmann, 41, is planning a six-month holiday to recover and to spend more time with his California-based family after guiding unfancied Germany to the semi-finals.

Joachim Loew, who was Klinsmann's assistant, has now taken charge.

An emotional Klinsmann denied resigning after two years as boss of Germany to coach the America national side.

"I feel internally burned out. I owe it to myself to take a six-month holiday now. I won't do anything else. There is no contract with the USA team."
