Trump DROPS Melania's hand during public outing

"And, in many cases, the very, very dishonest press doesn't want to report it. They have their reasons, and you understand that."

Trump’s outburst forced the White House press secretary Sean Spicer to defend the President’s comments whilst on a plane, via a CNN journalist’s Twitter account.

The tweet read: “In gaggle on AF1, Spicer says terror attacks ‘aren't exactly covered to a degree on which they should be.’ Did not specify which attacks.”

The White House later released a list of 78 attacks around the world from September 2014 to December 2016 which led Spicer to add: “There’s several instances. There’s a lot of instances that have occurred where I don’t think they've gotten the coverage it deserved.

"Protest gets blown out of the water and yet an attack or a foiled attack doesn't necessarily get the same coverage.”

The list includes incidents like a truck massacre in Nice that killed dozens and received widespread attention, as well as less high-profile incidents in which nobody was killed.

Trump’s media bash follows comments from Kelly-Anne Conway, Trump’s senior adviser, who made a similar fake claim, that the press ignored the so-called “Bowling Green massacre” – an attack which never occurred.

Ms Conway – who had referenced the fictional attack once before – said she “misspoke”.

Al Tompkins at The Poynter Institute, a Florida-based journalism school, dismissed Trump's criticism.

Mr Tompkins said: "To suggest that journalists have some reason not to report ISIS attacks is just outlandish."
