Two guests have died after a suspected electrocution in the swimming pool of a luxury five-star hotel on Friday evening. A German flight crew member and a Slovak business manager died following an incident in a swimming pool at Conrad Bengaluru, a five-star hotel located in Bengaluru, India. Local media reported that the incident was suspected to have been caused by an electric current in the pool.

Police identified the casualties as Alexander Maximilian Theiss, 57, a German national and Lufthansa crew member, and Juraj Horvat, 45, a Slovak national who worked as a project manager for IBM. Both were staying at the hotel and had gone for a swim in the third-floor swimming pool.

They were taken to hospital, which said one of the casualties was dead on arrival and the other arrived in a state of cardiac arrest and could not be revived. A member of the hotel staff who had tried to rescue them and a guest from the United States who "managed to swim to safety" were also treated and in stable condition, the hospital said.

Lufthansa confirmed that one of its crew members died during the layover in Bengaluru. Lufthansa said in a statement to Fox News Digital: "Lufthansa confirms with deep sadness that a member of our crew passed away following an accident on Friday (30 October 2026) during a layover in Bengaluru."

Theiss' wife has filed a police complaint, NDTV reported. The complaint alleges that the victims suffered an electric shock while trying to get out of the pool and drowned.
