Police were called to deal with a "suspicious package" at The Glades shoping centre in the London borough.

Shoppers were forced to leave the centre, on High Street, shortly after 6pm as police swooped.

Police confirmed the complex had been evacuated as they investigated the package.

Officials are now asking shoppers and residents to avoid the area while they deal with the incident.

Photos on social media show police at the scene along with a crowd of curious onlookers.

The centre has re-opened now, according to a post on the centre' Twitter account.

It read: "We have re-opened following an evacuation and the Restaurant Terrace is trading as usual. Stores will re-open tomorrow as normal."

Police said nothing suspicious was found at the scene.
