His new CD Lang Lang: The Chopin Album (Sony) is out in the UK on Monday.
THREE TENORS: IN CONCERT, IN ROME
(Decca)
This is one of the most popular albums of classical music and really opens your heart.
They have such beautiful voices and it’s good to listen to on any occasion.
VIENNA NEW YEAR'S CONCERT: PHILIHARMONIC, conducted by Zubin Mehta
(Deutsche Grammophon)
Zubin Mehta is a dear friend and amazing mentor to me.
The Vienna New Year’s Concert is so beautiful and I’ve watched it every year since I was a child. It is the
most delicate joyful music to listen to.
It is an advanced concept and I think it’s very cool to listen to this futuristic music
HERBIE HANCOCK: THE IMAGINE PROJECT
Imagine Project
(Sony)
Herbie has recorded with many different musicians from different parts of the world, South America, Africa,
Asia, Europe and the USA. I am inspired by his variety and creativity.
LANG LANG: MY PIANO HERO
Piano Hero
(Sony)
I dedicated this to Liszt who 200 years ago was one of the first musical rock stars.
I believe that even though we are now in the 21st century we will always have the passion to perform Liszt.
MICHAEL JACKSON: MICHAEL
Michael
(Sony)
This is the album he was supposed to release for his last concert but never lived to see it happen.
Even though we know so much of Jackson’s music the interpretation is fresh and new.
It is deeply touching.
JAY-Z AND KANYE WEST: WATCH THE THRONE
Watch The Throne
(Mercury)
These are my contemporary favourites. The way they mix music with beat and musical techniques is fresh and unique.
It is an advanced concept and I think it’s very cool to listen to this futuristic music.
