Two tennis stars have pulled out of Wimbledon less than two weeks before it gets underway. The grass-court season is well and truly in the swing of things, but both Sebastian Korda and Alejandro Tabilo will play no part in its Grand Slam showpiece.

It was revealed on Tuesday that the duo, who rank 26th and 55th in the world respectively, have withdrawn from the championships ahead of time. It’s a blow for Tabilo, who was looking to improve on his best-ever Wimbledon run from last year, having reached the third round for the first time ever.

Korda, a former Australian Open quarter-finalist, boasts a marginally better Wimbledon record, having reached the fourth round four years ago. But, the 24-year-old’s talents should come as no surprise, given the ridiculously successful sporting family he hails from.

All five members of the family have turned out to be globally ranked sportspeople, with parents Petr and Regina having both been tennis stars in their own right. And then there’s Nelly and Jessica, who are both professional golfers.

Despite boasting two ATP titles to his name, Sebastian has actually suggested he’s the worst athlete in the family. Speaking at the Australian Open earlier this year, Korda explained: “I love playing in Australia, as does my family. My dad won the Australian Open 25 years ago, and my sister won the Australian Open in women’s golf!

“I don’t know what I’m going to be ranked [after victory], but my mum’s career high was 26, my dad was two, my sister Nelly was No. 1, my elder sister Jessica was six... so I’m definitely the worst athlete in the family so far!”

Korda will have to wait to fulfil his own Grand Slam destiny though, having previously claimed he was one of the favourites to win Wimbledon. Commenting ahead of the 2023 edition, he explained: "I'm very confident in myself on a grass court.

“I move really well, I definitely have a game that not very many people have. I'm an aggressive player, like to come to the net, I have good hands. I definitely feel as if I'm one of the favourites at Wimbledon."

The American was knocked out in the first round of that year’s tournament.
