United have already sewn up a deal for PSV winger Memphis Depay, putting Di Maria's place at risk.
But with Express Sport today revealing that United are now closing in on an £80million deal for Bale, Di Maria is set to be ushered out the door.
Di Maria only joined United from Real Madrid in a British transfer record £60million deal last summer.
But he has struggled mightily for form and now looks set to be very much surplus to requirements next term.
In addition to Depay and Bale, United also have the likes of Juan Mata and Adnan Januzaj who can play out wide.
And United will almost certainly look to recoup most of what they paid for Di Maria by offering the player to Paris Saint-Germain.
Di Maria was close to joining the Ligue 1 outfit last summer only for Financial Fair Play rules to scupper a deal.
But recent reports suggest that Jorge Mendes, the player's agent, has reopened talks with PSG and is preparing to broker a deal that would see him finally get his move to the French capital.
