Manager Roberto Mancini is desperate to add further firepower to his midfield after signing Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich this month.

The Serie A giants also bagged Gunners striker Lukas Podolski in the January transfer window but Mancini is determined to land Suarez to bolster the spine of his team.

And, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Inter will begin discussions with Atletico once the latter's Copa del Rey tie with Real Madrid tonight is concluded.
Suarez is expected to start in the Bernabeu as Atletico defend a 2-0 first-leg lead of this last-16 tie.
The 27-year-old has played 19 games for Atletico this season and picked up seven yellow cards.
