Aston Villa revealed that Rashford's performance metrics ranked fourth best at the club following his switch from Old Trafford.

Manager Unai Emery, who will be without striker Ollie Watkins for the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Tottenham, now faces a decision on whether to start Rashford.

He could also opt for Donyell Malen or Morgan Rogers to lead his attack, with the final decision to be made after today's (Saturday) training session.

Emery also dismissed any interest he might have in Rashford's exit from United, and his apparent differences with Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.

The Spaniard said: "I’m very happy with him. The conversation I had with him was very normal. It was between a player and coach. I only want from him the best football.

"He is one player more helping us. He still has huge potential to exploit. I don’t want to know the reasons he’s left Manchester United.

"I want to help him recover his performances, individually and collectively. It’s an exciting challenge."

The Villa boss also praised the club's recent transfer activity. Alongside Rashford, Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi have also joined the squad.

Emery commented: "The club did well in the transfer window. We did more than we wished to sign players. We did more than normal.

"The transfer window is difficult. Now, we were competing very well. Now, we have four months to recover some good performances.

"We are not in a position where we can feel comfortable in the Premier League. We have to get better performances in the league."

Emery found himself in a bind due to player turnover and UEFA's stringent rules, which allow Villa to add only three players to their Champions League squad.

The £21million signing from Borussia Dortmund, Donyell Malen, was left out alongside young defender Andres Garcia.

For Malen, who played in the final against Real Madrid just eight months ago, this exclusion was particularly tough.

Emery disclosed: "We changed five players. We can only register three. The decision we had to take yesterday was Andres Garcia and Donyell Malen.

"It wasn’t a good decision I had to take. But I spoke with them to tell them the decision.

"It wasn’t an easy conversation with Donyell. It’s not fair. But the rules have pushed us into taking that decision. I explained to him why we took it.

"He accepted it. But it’s not easy for him to be here and not play in the Champions League. But we have the Premier League. I had to take the decision. But he’s training well."
