Areas of the UKlook set to be hit with a wall of rain in days as a period of sustained sunny skies comes to an end.

The Met Office has revealed the areas of the UK set to be hit with a wall of rain in days as a period of sustained sunny and hot weather comes to an end. The national weather agency's rainfall radar forecast map currently shows large areas of rain battering the British Isles on the morning of Tuesday (August 25).
From 1am rainclouds look set to be hanging over the south and southwest coast of England and up towards Wales, with Southampton, Brighton, and Swindon within the affected area. There is also a build up in Cornwall towards the southwesternmost tip of the county. By 4am a wall of rain is shown extending from Dover into southern Wales via cities and towns including Rochester, London, Reading, Southampton, Swindon, and Yeovil, into Cardiff and beyond, with patches of rain in Scotland and northern England.

By 7am, the wall of rain could move up into East Anglia and across via Cambridge, Banbury, Birmingham, Swindon, Hereford, and cover much of the southern half of Wales.
From 10am it looks set to be more patchy, with rain clouds alleviating in the southernmost parts of England, but moving into northern areas of Wales, the Midlands, and patches in areas including Yorkshire and the Humber, the North West and North East of England, parts of Scotland, and the southern half of Northern Ireland.
Rain will continue from 1pm, moving away from much of Wales, but covering parts of the North West, including Manchester, with patches of blue shown across northern England, some areas of Northern Ireland including southern most areas, and a patch on the eastern border with the Republic of Ireland, and in scattered areas across Scotland, including in Edinburgh.
At 4pm these patches will continue in northern England, parts of Scotland, with rain in southwestern parts of Northern Ireland as a sizeable area of rain moves in from the southern coast of England. The northern tip of the rain clouds look set to be unleashing an arking arm of rain from Weymouth up to just south of Oxford.
More severe rain could be beginning in some areas at this time, including a patch north of Portsmouth seeing more than 32m of rain per hour.
By 7pm this more intense area of rain looks set to be covering large areas of southern England, soaking various towns and cities including Swindon, Reading, Brighton, Southampton, and Yeovil, with a spear of rain extending through Wales via Hereford and into the Midlands.
Rainfall is expected to range between between less than 0.5mm per hour up as high as over 32mm per hour on Tuesday evening.
An area of rain is forecast to be covering a large area of south western Scotland northwest of Dumfries too at this time, as patches continue to be seen in other areas.

Heavy rains will continue across various parts of southern England, Wales, and Scotland by 10pm, falling with particular intensity in parts of South East England and into the Midlands, as, east of St Albans, in Kent, and on the Essex coast, including Clacton-on-Sea.
By 1am a rain will once again be battering much of Wales, while a similar pattern continues in parts of Scotland, and southwest of England, including Plymouth, with rain clouds moving up into the Northwest to cover Manchester.
A thick area of rain also looks set to be striking across the West and East Midlands, with 8 to 16mm of rain per hour in Nottingham.
Meanwhile, downpours are anticipated on the southern coast of Scotland, with patches moving south eastward across Scotland from the southern-most Southern Isles.
By 4am rain could be easing off in various parts of England, but hammering areas bordering Wales, which looks to be almost completely under rain clouds, and continuing in parts of northern England, and Scotland.

"Rain and thundery showers could develop in the south, spreading north later. Temperatures near average."
Meanwhile, today, showers are expected to "be less frequent and lighter than recent days, though some heavy or thundery downpours remain possible".
"These are most likely across Wales and southwestern England and parts of eastern and southeastern areas. Northern Ireland turns drier later."
Tonight, most showers "will fade allowing clear spells to develop", the Met Office says. "A few showers will persist around exposed coasts. It will become rather chilly overnight, especially in rural areas."
Saturday is then expected to see coastal showers gradually easing, "leaving most areas dry with sunny spells".
"Cloud will thicken across northern Scotland, bringing some light rain. Temperatures around average after a chilly start."
