I am actively sowing new grass seed in thin and bare patches of all sizes to thicken the lawn and create a lush green lawn for spring and summer. The lawn soil is soft and moist, and with temperatures gradually increasing, we can sow grass seed to repair our lawns.

I use my hand and garden forks to make little holes about 1 to 2 cm deep. Then, using the mini handheld spreader, I sprinkle grass seed onto the patch. I then quilt the grass seed with some lawn dressing or topsoil. This technique can be used on any size patch. The process is the same, and the outcome is a carpet of new, lush green grass.

The grass seeds will germinate over a few weeks to a month. It is best to allow the new grass to fully establish before walking on it.

If you want to boost the whole lawn, you can give it a spring feed using granular fertiliser.
