Nationwide Building Society members who are yet to receive a £50 bonus payment may need to take action. The group issued the £50 payments to more than 12 million members as a thank you gift after it successfully acquired Virgin Money.

Called the 'Big Nationwide Thank You', most payments were sent directly into bank accounts. Some of the £50 payments were paid either into a Nationwide current account, instant access or limited access savings account in your name. Mortgage customers received the payments into the account used to pay their mortgage direct debit.

All other payments were sent out as cheques in the post. A customer contacted Nationwide as they had received the amount paid directly into their account, while their children had cheques issued to them.

Unfortunately, the person was having an issue cashing in the cheques. They explained: "I have just had an opportunity to get them banked and can't find them.

"Would you be willing to re-issue them?" Nationwide advised the member to contact them for help, either through the app or website or by calling the provider on 03457 302011.

The building society was asked if it is possible to get a replacement cheque issue. A spokesperson said: "If the customer calls or pops into a branch we will arrange a replacement to be posted within 10-15 days."

Another rule to note if you were sent a cheque for the £50 is that you need to cash this in by January 1 to be sure to receive the funds. Nationwide members also received a separate payment recently, with £100 sent out to more than four million customers in the latest issue of the Nationwide Fairer Share Payment.

This scheme is where Nationwide shares out its profits with its customers. To get the funds, you needed a qualifying current account and either a mortgage or a savings account with the mutual.

Payments went out between June 18 and July 4, with the funds paid only into open Nationwide current accounts, so you need to have an open current account to receive the amount. Nationwide recently confirmed that biometric verification will soon be made available to all current account customers.

The security measure checks it is really you making a transaction by using either your fingerprint or facial recognition. A spokesperson for the building society said: "This option will be available soon to all current account customers using our mobile app.

"We're working to extend it to new customers at account opening too, subject to successful completion of account opening checks. For those who prefer, the card reader will continue to be available."
