The 34-year-old was just nine when the film was released in 1992, long before she went on to become a Channel 4 mainstay in the mid-2000s.

The star’s fans were mindblown by the news when Twitter user @jrawson posted: “Your annual reminder that the Ghost of Christmas Past from The Muppet Christmas Carol is voiced by a young Jessica Fox, aka Nancy from Hollyoaks.”

“Omg I never knew this,” said one fan, while another said a simple “WHAT?!” with a shocked emoji.

Fox had plenty of experience before she joined Hollyoaks, including The Worst Witch, in which she played Enid Nightshade.

She then had roles in Crossroads, The Forsyte Saga and The Bill before finally landing in the Chester-set soap.

The film was dedicated at the time to the memory of Jim Henson, the Muppets creator, who died two years prior to its release.

Unbelievably it did not make much of an impact on the box office at the time, due to competition it faced from Home Alone 2: Lost In New York and Aladdin.

It went on over the years to become a cult classic, and is now truly in the roster of the nation’s favourite festive movies.
