Davina McCall “cried all the way home” as the realities of “empty nest syndrome” hit when her daughter left the family home.
The 57-year-old has two daughters and a son with ex-husband, television presenter Matthew Robertson. Eldest daughter Holly, 22, graduated from university in the summer, while middle daughter Tilly, 21, is said to live in Sydney. Her son, Chester, 17, remains the only one of her children still living at home.
Davina says it was a moment when she was dropping her eldest daughter off in Manchester that she was overcome with emotion. And despite only being “two hours away,” Davina said she struggled as they settled her into her new home.
Writing in the The Times Magazine, she said: “I wasn’t worried about empty nest syndrome until I drove my daughter to Manchester recently. We built IKEA furniture all day, settled her in, and then I cried all the way home.
“It’s only two hours on the train, for crying out loud.”
Despite Chester now being the only one of Davina's three children still living at home, she confesses the teenager rarely needs his mother.
She added: “My son is the only kid still at home now and he doesn’t need me, apart from the odd lift here and there, so I’m working a few more days in the week. I still want balance though.”
It comes as Davina prepares to launch her new podcast, Begin Again, where she will be discussing embracing midlife, speaking to experts, and sharing personal insights into her life. She also hosts ITV’s My Mum, Your Dad dating show, judges on The Masked Singer, and fronts ITV’s Long Lost Family.

Discussing her new podcast, she said: “I am loving recording Begin Again and I can’t wait for you to hear it. I love it so much I have literally been running to work. I have hand-picked guests who can help us move into this next phase of our lives and help us make it our best act yet.
“I’ve always felt that calling midlife our ‘second spring’ is such a lovely sentiment. A time when we can say what we like, do what we like, wear what we like... basically be free of everything that has held us back… I want us to be confident, healthy, and emotionally robust enough to stride into this moment in our lives and really enjoy it. Begin Again is going to help make that happen for you… and me.”
