This Morning chef Gino D’Acampo has talked about the dating show he’s keen to see return in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk. In a wider chat about Food Waste Action Week, which saw Gino pair up with Love Food Hate Waste in a bid to help shoppers save money by shopping for loose produce, the star spoke about presenting a quiz show for the first time.

Gino has been proudly hosting the ITV quiz series Family Fortunes since 2020 following the classic 80s show’s return to our screens. He appears to be loving the gig so far, offering an insight into how it feels stepping into the shoes of former hosts like Bob Monkhouse and Les Dennis.

Gino said: “I still can’t believe that I am the host of Family Fortunes. It’s a huge honour to fill the very important shoes of the presenters before me.

“But to be honest, I don’t see myself as the presenter of the show, as I am more interested in playing along and having fun with the guests instead!”

Asked if he would like to present more game shows in the future, Gino confirmed: “I wouldn’t want to present another game show, as I already present Family Fortunes.

“However, I would love to bring back and host Blind Date. To me, that was the funniest show ever…”

Iconic ITV dating show Blind Date ran between 1985 and 2003 and was hosted by the late Cilla Black.

The show returned for two years in 2017, airing instead on Channel 5, with the late Paul O'Grady taking over hosting duties.

Elsewhere in the interview, Gino spoke about why he decided to team up with Love Food Hate Waste for Food Waste Action Week.

He said: “Anyone who loves food does not like the idea of wasting it. I got involved in this year’s campaign

as I believe in the message, from both a sustainability standpoint, and a flavour standpoint.

“The goal is to choose loose and only buy what you need – which helps both waste and taste.

“In Italy, we are taught that the fewer ingredients you cook with (so long as they are in-season and good quality) the better your dish will be – so really, it’s the best of both worlds. Less waste, and a better dish!”

Love Food Hate Waste is encouraging people to embrace the mantra “choose what you’ll use” to save money and cut food waste this week. To find out more and for Love Food Hate Waste’s easy hacks, click here.
